Taco Bell Pulls Veggie-Bashing Ad After Complaints

  • January 29, 2013

In response to complaints, Taco Bell has stopped running a TV ad that suggested that people skip bringing vegetable trays to football game-watching parties, in favor of its 12-packs of Taco Bell tacos.

The spot said people secretly hate guests who bring veggie trays to parties, calling that choice "like punting on fourth and one."

Nutrition advocacy group Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) urged people to tweet their complaints about the ad to the brand, noting that healthy vegetables and fruits already get relatively little TV commercial exposure, and that "the last thing" they need is to be the subject of "attack ads."

Taco Bell quickly pulled the ad, with a spokesperson saying "We didn't want anyone to misinterpret" it, reports the Christian Science Monitor.

CSPI yesterday issued a release praising Taco Bell for "responding with record speed to address nutritionists' and consumers' concern over this ad campaign."
