Media agency veteran Tim Spengler has joined Clear Channel Media & Entertainment as President of Content Marketing and Revenue Strategy, the company confirmed Monday.
In his new role
Spengler will develop multimedia strategies and other “creative opportunities” for advertisers utilizing the company’s broad portfolio of assets, the media company said.
Among
those assets is the biggest radio group in the country and related radio platforms on satellite, digital HD, the Internet, mobile applications and station websites. The company also produces live
concerts and other events, syndication and music research services.
Spengler has spent nearly two-decades in senior posts at Interpublic Group, most recently as CEO Magna Global, the strategic
media investment and intelligence arm of IPG Mediabrands. Before that he ran the North American arm of media agency Initiative. Prior to that role he led Initiative’s national broadcast buying
operation for a number of years.
Spengler will remain based in New York and report to CCM+E Chairman and CEO John Hogan. “Tim’s experience and expertise will help us further
create and shape Clear Channel’s offering” Hogan said of the appointment. “He will help us redefine what a true 21st century media and entertainment company looks
like.”
One of the last major initiatives Spengler worked on at Magna Global was the Magna Consortium, launched in August with a number of big media companies (including Clear
Channel) designed to improve the media planning and buying process by tackling such issues as when and where programmatic buying does and doesn’t work.
Commenting on the
departure IPG Mediabrands Global CEO Matt Seiler stated, "This has been a big year for IPG Mediabrands, especially through the growth of Magna Global as a fully diversified and strategic buying unit
for all our clients. Tim has been a big part of setting up the team of automation, digital and broadcast expertise, combined with the full buying and negotiating talent across our agencies. With the
Magna Consortium established along with Clear Channel and our other major media partners, we look forward to continuing to work with Tim in leading the industry."
