MediaCom Poaches OMG's Jon Gittings For Global Biz Dev Role

WPP’s MediaCom has named Jon Gittings to the newly created post of global business development strategy officer. Gittings jumped from the Omnicom Media Group, where he was global communications planning director, to assume the new role at MediaCom.

Based in New York, Gittings will report to Global Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer Toby Jenner.

According to the agency, Gittings is tasked with creating business development strategies that reflect the agency’s “Content and Connections” positioning for both new and existing clients.

MediaCom has been doing well in the business development department of late. Just last week, it won Ebay’s $100 million consolidated media planning and buying account for the Europe Middle East and Africa region. Last month, it retained the $3.1 billion global Volkswagen assignment and in March, it was cited by billings tracker RECMA for its top performance in media agency pitches worldwide for 2013. Within the last year, it also added assignments from Sony Mobile and Electronics, GlaxoSmithKline and Danone.

“You strengthen when you are winning and at your strongest,“  said Jenner. ‘‘We can always be better, and Jon will help us achieve this.“

While at OMG, Gittings is credited with helping to reel in the global Carlsberg and HTC accounts, as well as Renault Nissan Alliance and Telenor in EMEA.
