LG Touts Smartphone Camera With Instagram Contest

With everyone taking pictures with their smartphones these days, it’s about time someone begins celebrating the work that goes into them.

To promote its new G4 smartphone’s photo capabilities, LG Mobile has launched a social photo contest encouraging people to capture (and submit) the shot of a lifetime with their smartphones for a chance to win a trip to New York City for a crash course in phone photography.

“We know that photography has exploded with smartphones, and there’s an opportunity for it to grow more,” Frank Lee, director of communications and accounts for LG Mobile, tells Marketing Daily. “We want to inspire people to take photos with their phones and share them with others.”

LG is supporting the promotion with a digital media campaign, and has enlisted four “photo influencers” to tout the contest, curate unique content and offer tips for getting the best photos. The popular New York Ckty photographers and Instagrammers — @newyorkcity (Liz Eswein), @tutes (Jose Tutiven), @keven.ornelas (Kevin Ornelas) and @llewllewtoo (Cara Llewellyn) — will spend the month looking for unique photos that they believe capture some of the best photographs, and promote them with the #BestShotEver tag.

Consumers, meanwhile, are encouraged to enter the contest themselves via Instagram, using @LGUSAMobile’s username and the #BestShotEver hashtag. The creators of the best photos, as identified by the judges (with categories including Beauty and Aesthetics, Storytelling and Emotional Content, and Composition), will win a trip for two to New York City, two new LG G4s and a private helicopter tour of the Big Apple to get a new perspective on the city.

“It’s about letting people know they can be a great photographer,” Lee says. “We want to ignite that passion we all have.”
