Coolest Wearable Brands: Apple, Samsung, Google, LG

When it comes to wearable technology, the perception of Apple can’t be topped.

Smartphone owners, regardless of their mobile preference, consider Apple to be the “coolest brand” for wearable technology, based on a new study.

It also turns out that functions are more important than fashion and battery life is not a significant factor in the purchase decision, according to the study by Juniper Research.

Here are the top 20 companies ranked as the coolest wearable brands:

  1. Apple
  2. Samsung
  3. Google
  4. LG
  5. Sony
  6. Nike
  7. Rolex
  8. UnderArmour
  9. TAG Heuer
  10. Ralph Lauren
  11. G-Shock
  12. Chanel
  13. Microsoft
  14. Motorola
  15. Adidas
  16. Omega
  17. Breitling
  18. Huawei
  19. Garmin
  20. Pebble

Tech brands are still considered the best for wearables with fashion and sports brands lagging behind.

For smartwatches alone, Apple and Samsung collectively dominate the market, with 75% preferring either one or the other. And battery life is a non-issue, deterring only 4% from buying a wearable.

The majority (64%) of iOS users see Apple as the coolest wearable brand. Here are the overall rankings by iOS users:

  • 64% -- Apple
  • 4% -- Sony
  • 3% -- Google
  • 2% -- Samsung
  • 1% -- LG

Though there was little difference in the type of device they are likely to buy, iOS users are more likely than Android users to buy a wearable in the near future.

But no matter who is buying, only one in five consumers would be willing to pay more than $175 for a wearable of any kind.

More Android owners also see Apple as the coolest brand for wearables, but they have different views of other brands. Here are the overall views of Android users of the coolest wearable brands:

  • 22% -- Apple
  • 18% -- Samsung
  • 9% -- Google
  • 7% -- LG
  • 6% -- Sony

When consumers think of connected gadgets of the Internet of Things, they also think Apple, as I wrote about here during the summer (Best Known As IoT Brand: Apple, 48%; Samsung, 22%).

No matter who is making and marketing what in the Internet of Things, Apple leads the perception race.
