Yahoo Search Serves Flickr Images

Yahoo expanded its photo search Friday to pull in images uploaded by Flickr account holders when they are relevant to the search term queries.

For those signed into their photo social network account, a search query will display personalized results from Flickr, including a selection of personally owned public images from people followed, as well as top public photos hosted on the site. In other words, Yahoo will personalize searches with your images hosted on Flickr and the images from friends.

The site also added advanced filters alongside their query, like color and size, and a filter that allows users to select the appropriate items from the "License" drop-down menu. The menu can filter the Yahoo image search results by license type, from "Any License" to commercial reuse and public domain.

A "More images" button also appears on each category of Flickr image results and links directly to Flickr.com for more photos. The image search feature is available for U.S. desktop users only.

The new feature should help Yahoo compete not only with the growing number of cloud service supporting images such as iCloud, but drive queries across the company's properties to support advertising.
