Media company Meredith says it is developing the first TV series based on an app.
The show “Dinner Spinner,” which is based on the Meredith’s Allrecipes Dinner Spinner app, will
debut on the CW Network at Saturday morning at 11 a.m. on October 1 during the network’s programming block called “One Magnificent Morning.”
The app has been downloaded by 18
million fans.
The half-hour show will get an initial 26 week run, produced by Meredith and INE Entertainment. Panasonic is the show’s premier sponsor.
For each episode, two home
cooks will go head-to-head in a competition to create a unique dinnertime meal; judges critique the final dishes to determine the winner.
The app comes from Allrecipes magazine, which
is published six times year with a rate base of 1.3 million. The company says it reaches an audience of 7.6 million. Allrecipes has 19 Web sites and three mobile apps.
Overall,
through all Meredith media brands, the company says it reaches more than 103 million American women, 72% of U.S. millennial women.
CW’s “One Magnificent Morning,” launched
two years ago with live action, documentary and lifestyle programming from Litton Entertainment, targets teens and families. It replaced the CW animation block called Vortexx.
