Longtime TV/media executive Ray Warren will become the new head of a Telemundo sports unit
Warren is becoming president of NBCUniversal’s Telemundo Deportes, where he will oversee all
Telemundo’s sports business across all its platforms and networks. He will be responsible for developing new business for both existing and new franchises -- especially FIFA World Cup
properties.
Previously, Warren had been EVP/CRO of NBC Sports Regional Networks. He will report to Cesar Conde, chairman, NBCUniversal International and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.
Warren has had a long history in both media buying and selling. He had been president of Carat Media Group Americas, managing director of OMD USA and president/CEO of Raycom Sports. He also held
senior advertising sales positions at ABC Television Network.
Telemundo has made major gains in recent weeks -- beating longtime Spanish-language broadcaster Univision for the first time in

Telemundo has topped Univision for six consecutive weeks from Monday-Friday, averaging a Nielsen 809,000 key adults 18-49 viewers to Univision’s 760,000
viewers in the same demo. Telemundo was also tops in young 18-34 viewers to Univision --- 382,000 adults 18-34 viewers to Univision’s 359,000.
Telemundo benefited from NBCUniversal
multi-network coverage of the Rio Olympics. Company executives also credit shifting prime-time series to longer-form narratives, as well as shifting content of its telenovelas, now focusing on drug
trade, immigration, and other themes -- in addition to traditional soap operas.
Season-to-date, Univision still leads Telemundo when it comes to total average prime-time viewers, posting a
Nielsen 2.03 million to 1.44 million for Telemundo.
