Razorfish Hires Harvard Physicist To Help Expand Cosmos

Razorfish is hiring Kevin Mercurio to serve as the newly created director of data science for its Cosmos digital intelligence platform. Last July Razorfish introduced Cosmos to track and monitor both offline and online behaviors.

Mercurio will be tasked with developing the deep learning algorithms at the nucleus of Cosmos, driving Razorfish’s ability to learn, reason and predict the needs of consumers along the path to purchase. He will be based in the agency’s New York office and report to chief intelligence officer Samih Fadli.

Although he doesn't have much traditional agency experience, Mercurio’s diverse background is expected to bring a new perspective to the Publicis-owned shop. Most recently he worked at Insight Data Science, where he consulted high growth start-ups and Fortune 500 companies, including Bloomberg, Viacom, Gartner, J.P. Morgan, and BirchBox. He advised them about building in-house data science teams.

Prior to Insight, he spent three years as a scientist at CERN, Europe’s particle physics research laboratory in Geneva. He is a certified data whiz. Mercurio studied at Harvard University where he earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics.

“The importance of data availability and intelligence powered by machine learning is much bigger than anyone can anticipate, as marketers are increasingly needing to compete for the attention of their customers in real time,” said Fadli. “Adding Kevin to our team allows us to super charge our marketing intelligence capabilities in order to meet the surging demand from clients for highly intelligent and sophisticated experiences.”
