Netflix Extends International Partnership With Liberty Global

In pursuit of higher-potential global distribution, Netflix has extended its Liberty Global partnership, which will include 11 million subscribers in Europe.

The deal covers six countries under different Liberty Global brand names: Virgin Media, Telenet and UPC brands.

Previously, Liberty and Netflix signed a long-term, multi-year deal in 2016 covering countries across Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.

About half of Virgin Media's V6 video subscribers regularly access Netflix content on traditional TV sets, according to Liberty.Liberty Global has 11 million customers subscribing to 25 million TV, broadband internet and phone services.

Netflix has 167 global subscribers; and 61 million in the U.S. In the fourth quarter, it added 8.8 global subscribers; 420,000 in the U.S. In the fourth quarter it reported revenue of $5.47 billion, higher than analysts’ estimates of $5.45 billion.

Netflix competitor and rapidly growing streaming service Disney+ now has 28.5 million U.S. subscribers. It plans to pursue an aggressive international strategy as well.
