Consumers are leaning heavily on remote grocery shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic and it looks like many are turning to Walmart.
Walmart Grocery just hit an all-time high in downloads, obtaining the number one ranking spot among all shopping apps in the U.S., according to the latest tally by App Annie.
Walmart Grocery app downloads topped Amazon by 20%.
Downloads of Walmart Grocery increased 460% in average daily downloads compared to its January performance, while Amazon, which many consumers already had installed, increased 20%.
Overall shopping app downloads reached 106 million globally in one week, increasing 15% from the weekly average for January, including 14 million in the U.S., an increase of 20%.
Another indicator of an increase in app usage during the pandemic, Walmart’s customer-facing app Me@Walmart, used by associates for the Walmart scheduling system, has seen 220% growth in time spent on Android phones compared to four weeks previous.
While COVID-19 has impacted travel, conferences and social gatherings, it’s also is causing new behaviors, one of which is mobile grocery shopping from Walmart.
