Global SVOD Subscriptions, Revenue To Double By 2025, Big Gains For Netflix, Disney+, Amazon: Study

Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video will control half the world’s subscription-video on demand (SVOD) users by 2025, according to a new survey.

Research covering 138 countries shows SVOD subscriptions will more than double -- to 1,170 million in 2025 from 529 million a year ago, according to Digital TV Research.

Netflix will grow to 263 million subscriptions -- adding 91 million subscribers over that five--year period -- while Disney+ will land at 172 million, increasing 142 million subscribers between 2019 and 2025.

Specific Amazon Prime Video data was not immediately available, but other estimates show it will take in around 120 million to 150 million subscribers by 2025.

China and the U.S. will together account for 51% of the global total by 2025 -- down from their combined total of 63% a year ago.
The U.S. will be the biggest SVOD revenue-producing country -- rising to $42 billion in 2025 from $18 billion in 2019.

SVOD revenues among 138 countries will also double -- to $100 billion in 2025 from $50 billion in 2019. Sixteen countries will see revenues over $1 billion in five years -- double the total of eight countries in 2019.
