Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson Joins Amperity Board

Amperity, the provider of a cloud-based customer data platform, has named Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson to its board of directors. 

Johnson has brought “a technology-first mindset to Starbucks,” states Kabir Shahani, CEO of Amperity. 

Johnson’s approach to using data and modern technology to "build brand loyalty is instructive for every consumer business,” Shahani adds. 

For his part, Johnson believes that Amperity can help businesses unlock their digital potential by “unifying first-party customer data and then enabling the insight and personalization that elevates the customer experience and builds brand loyalty.”

It was not clear at deadline whether Johnson’s appointment portends any other relationship between him and Amperity, or between the two firms. 

Johnon joined the Starbucks board in 2009, and in 2015 became president and chief operating officer. In 2017, he was named CEO, and  has reportedly has led the firm’s efforts to build personalized experiences in bot digital channels and brick-and-mortar stores. Starbucks is an active email and loyalty marketer.

Prior to joining Starbucks, Johnson was CEO of Juniper Networks and served at Microsoft for 16 years.
