Social Platform Acquires VR Firm, Studio To Help Creators Enter Metaverse

Display Social, a platform that pays social media creators, has officially acquired the entertainment production company Thunder Studios and virtual reality pioneer Infinite Realities, to create a one-stop-shop for creators looking to enter the metaverse.

According to a recent statement from the company, the convergence of these elements will provide the creator economy with a suite of tools covering social media, gaming, virtual and remote production, non-fungible token (NFT) minting, and metaverse creation.

More specifically, Display Social Inc. offers an integrated social platform for creators, and a 150,000-square-foot Los Angeles-based facility featuring virtual production capabilities, in addition to an esports arena, a dedicated extended reality (XR) stage, and metaverse tools.

The potential of all of these resources is in the hands of content creators looking toward the future, who will have the capability to bring Hollywood-quality production value to their own content broadcasts into and out of the metaverse.

However, as Wired has made clear, there is no actual metaverse -- not yet, at least.

Aside from the merging of the real world with virtual worlds, there is no one agreed-upon definition of what the metaverse might be. And even if a consensus is reached, it will likely be years for such a concept to exist in the way that we expect.

Yet companies like Display are not the only ones preparing for the unknown. There has been a recent move toward companies empowering and preparing creators for the metaverse, often without massive real-world workspaces.

Last week, tech giant Nvidia made its real-time 3D design collaboration and virtual world simulation platform Omniverse free to individual creators and artists. Now, all that is needed to craft 3D assets and scenes, and connect to other 3D design worlds, is a laptop.

In terms of general ecommerce, four days ago, Samsung announced their first metaverse-mixed-reality retail store, located in the ethereum-based virtual world Decentraland.

With a crypto wallet, consumers can now enter the virtual store via their desktop browser and then their personal avatar.

As more companies and brands plan on moving their business into whatever the metaverse becomes, it makes sense that they’d be thinking about the creators who are already marketing their products across popular social media platforms.

Perhaps with the tools and resources Display’s new combined business venture provides creators, they will create completely new ways for creators to approach marketing and advertising.
