Volkswagen Sends ID.4 EV On Another Road Trip

Volkswagen of America is signing on as the official electric vehicle sponsor of filmmaker Erika Gilsdorf’s EV road trip series.

“What Fuels You” features the all-electric ID.4. The series shows Gilsdorf taking the ID.4 Pro S AWD on a multi-month, multi-state road trip. Her mission is to find what fuels people to drive change in their own lives, communities and on the road.

Starting in Minnesota, Gilsdorf will drive through the snowy mountains all the way to the Great Plains. While Gilsdorf has embarked on road trips before to create video content, this will be her first time driving a fully electric vehicle.

The road trip goes through parts of the country that many do not associate with EV adaptability, said Kimberley Gardiner, senior vice president, marketing, Volkswagen of America.

The automaker previously sent an ID.4 on another cross-country road trip with a similar purpose: to demonstrate the ease of using EVs in all situations, including long trips.

This time, the route begins in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and will stop in several cities along the 4,000-plus mile drive including Denver, Breckenridge, Aspen, Sundance, Salt Lake City and Nebraska City. The 2021 ID.4 Pro S AWD, which starts at $48,175, has an EPA-estimated 240 miles of range.

Gilsdorf will capture her journey through a series of micro videos on Instagram Stories/Reels and TikTok. The route will also include recharging the vehicle at Electrify America charging stations, among other available EV charging opportunities along the way.
