ProtonMail Acquires SimpleLogin, Email Privacy Service

Switzerland-based email provider ProtonMail has acquired SimpleLogin, a browser extension, web app and mobile app that provides consumers with anonymous email addresses when they sign up for online services. Terms were not disclosed.

ProtonMail CEO Andrew Yen revealed the purchase of the France-based company in a Friday blog post.

SimpleLogin is “a simple way to create a login, generating an email alias for you so that you don’t need to disclose your real email address,” Yen writes. “If a service you sign up for gets hacked, sends you spam, or sells your email to advertisers, you can disable that email alias to safeguard your inbox.

Yen adds that in the coming months, the company "will better integrate SimpleLogin functionality into ProtonMail, meaning the Proton community will be able to hide their email addresses using SimpleLogin.”
