Gmail Suffers Saturday Outage, But Issue Is Resolved

Gmail -- the world’s largest email service -- suffered a worldwide email delivery outage on Saturday, causing millions of users to have problems sending and receiving emails. But it apparently has resolved the issue.

The first report of delays came at 7:35 a.m. PT on Saturday morning, according to reports. “We are experiencing an issue with Gmail. Users may experience delays in email delivery. Our engineering team continues to investigate the issue,” Google said.

Later, Gmail reported that the issue was resolved, but that “ the Google Engineering team is now working through the backlog of undelivered messages and expect all messages to be delivered in the next few hours.”

Google reported at 10:30 a.m. that the issue was “fully mitigated,” and that it had caught up with the backlog.

Delays hit Gmail users from Indonesia to the United States.

In a separate issue, Google’s Ad Manager suffered a three-hour outage last Thursday, harming advertisers and publishers as the platform failed to serve ads.

The lack of competition to Google Ad Manager has left “publishers with few backup options,” Reuters wrote.
