Following in line with other leading social platforms like Snapchat and TikTok, Instagram is developing a multi-personality AI chat experience that answers user questions and more, according to a tweet from mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi.
According to Paluzzi's screenshot, Instagram's feature in testing invites users to “Bring AI to your chats for a more fun and engaging experience.”
Similar to Snapchat's controversial “My AI” tool, which garnered widespread flack from Snapchatters, Instagram's feature wants users to seek advice from the chatbot, with options to pick between 30 different AI personalities.
Users will also be able to call upon the chatbot to “inspire your creativity,” by helping them draft direct messages between friends.
The development follows in line with a statement made on Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's Instagram Channel.
“In the short term, we'll focus on building creative and expressive tools,” Zuckerberg stated. “Over the longer term, we'll focus on developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways. We're exploring experiences with text (like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger), with images (like creative Instagram filters and ad formats), and with video and multi-modal experiences.”
