Green Day Partners With Keurig Dr Pepper To Launch Punk Bunny Coffee

It’s perhaps unsurprising that a band that followed up its major commercial breakthrough with an album called “Insomniac” is awfully fond of coffee. And Ahead of an upcoming tour, the members of Green Day have partnered with Keurig Dr Pepper to launch a new coffee brand called Punk Bunny Coffee -- a reference to the band’s mascot.

Green Day is no stranger to the coffee category. Its members brewed up a previous regional coffee brand, Oakland Coffee. That brand initially served as fuel for friends, family, and the tour bus crew, growing out of their initial rounds of roasting coffee in small batches, using Fair Trade and organic beans. That focus on sustainability is central to the Punk Bunny brand as well.

As part of the collaboration with Keurig Dr Pepper, Punk Bunny Coffee will be the first brand to launch all of its r K-Cup pod varieties in new pod varieties that use easier-to-peel lids, which make it easier to recycle the pods.

Punk Bunny Coffee will also support Green Day’s “Fueled By Love” initiative, distributing a portion of profits for every bag or pod sold to the initiative’s community nonprofit partners. For Punk Bunny’s initial quarter, those organizations are: One Tree Planted, Oceana, Keep Memory Alive, Eat.Learn.Play., and The Ron Finley Project. The brand will also send out newsletters highlighting the work of its partner organizations

According to a release, the band wanted to take a more hands-on approach to the roasting process than they had with Oakland Coffee. To bring the brand to life, they merged with an unspecified “artisanal, family-run coffee roaster out of Ohio” to maintain more control over the line of coffee blends made with Fair Trade Certified, organic coffee beans. It also leaves open “possibilities for fun collaborations,” the brand notes.
