Continuing its drive to include streaming platforms in its traditional pay TV network packages, Charter Communications has struck a new multi-year TV network carriage deal with NBCUniversal to include streaming service Peacock.
An ad-supported Peacock version will now be included in Charter’s Spectrum TV Select to customers at no additional cost.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
For the legacy cable TV/communications company this deal continues to expand Charter’s effort started a year ago in making hybrid deals with companies to include not only linear TV networks but new streaming platforms.
In September 2023, it struck a then ground-breaking TV carriage deal with Walt Disney to include streamers -- Disney+ and ESPN+ -- along with traditional TV networks for newly constructed consumer “bundles.”
Since then, Charter has also made deals with other major TV network-based media companies -- Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global.
From all these deals, Charter now says Spectrum TV Select video customers will get up to $65 per month of retail direct-to-consumer streaming value, including Peacock, Disney+, ESPN+, Paramount+, AMC+, BET+, ViX, Max and Discovery+.
The NBCU deal will continue carriage of nearly 20 NBCUniversal linear TV networks.
This includes: NBC Television Network and Telemundo (through NBC-owned TV stations), Bravo, CNBC, CNBC World, E!, MSNBC, Universo, Oxygen, SYFY, Telemundo Network, Universal Kids, USA Network, The Golf Channel, NBC Sports Regional Networks and New England Cable News.
Other major pay TV providers -- like DirecTV -- have joined Charter in making deals with major TV network-centric media owners in adding streaming platforms for their new expanded TV bundles. Last month DirecTV made a similar deal with Disney to include Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu.
