Global pharmaceutical giant Boehringer Ingelheim has signed a new five-year contract with
Omnicom’s OMD, extending and expanding the agency’s media services remit.
OMD won the client’s global animal health account in 2020, and the new contract extends the relationship through
2029.

The new
agreement expands the agency’s remit to include commerce, search and healthcare professional-focused media in the U.S. The company previously worked with several agencies on the business
that shifted to OMD including Havas (healthcare professional segment), WPP (commerce) and Everybody (search).
The company spent an estimated $182 million on measured media in 2024 according to agency
research firm COMvergence.
The firm develops and markets products for both human and animal health. OMD’s remit includes human and animal health in the U.S., and animal
health in more than 30 markets around the world. In addition to the U.S., those countries include Canada, Australia, UK, Brazil, China, Germany, Italy and Japan. The company does not do direct
to consumer advertising outside the U.S.
While OMD leads the account, Boehringer Ingelheim will also utilize other Omnicom specialist agencies including Flywheel Digital, the retail media
and commerce platform that the holding company acquired in early 2024.
The company, based in Germany, was founded in 1885 and now has 54,500 employees worldwide. Brands include Frontline, Jardiance
and NexGard. The firm’s revenue last year was approximately $30.1 billion, up about 6.1% from 2023.
