Amidst corporate-level financial and stock market issues the company
has faced in recent months, Warner Bros. studio has started up another top-earning movie -- “Weapons" -- with $42.5 million in its debut weekend, according to IMDb’s Box Office Mojo.
It is the studio’s seventh first-place opening this year and the sixth film in a row to open with more than $40 million in North American box-office revenues.
“Weapons,” a
New Line-branded horror film, overdelivered by $10 million, according to estimates.
The late summer Warner Bros. movie had a tiny $7.2 million in national TV advertising spend, according to EDO
Ad EnGage.
This year so far, Warner Bros. have seen major overall domestic distribution results from “A Minecraft Movie,” “Superman,” “Sinners,” “F1:
The Movie, and “Final Destination: Bloodlines.”

Coming in at second place in weekend box office was Walt Disney’s “Freakier Friday,” a new rendition of the
original “Freaky Friday,” which earned a very healthy $29 million for the comedy.
The opening was the best ever for an August PG-rated or G-rated movie.
Estimates show
Disney also committed a very small national TV media campaign for its solid result -- with just $6.7 million in TV spend.
Total North American box office revenues through August 10, are at
$5.5 billion -- up 8% from 2024, but down from 10.3% from 2023.
