To help counteract the spread of bots and AI-generated users, X is
planning to roll out a new profile display that will include more personal information about the individual user.
Starting next week, X will begin “experimenting with displaying new
information on profiles, including which country an account is based, among other details,” according to X’s Head of Product Nikita Bier.
“When you read content on X, you
should be able to verify its authenticity,” Bier adds in an X post, referencing the onslaught of misleading identities and bots across social-media platforms -- an issue that has become more
pronounced with the evolution of AI technologies.
Per its profile update, X wants users to be able to make a more educated and informed decision as to whether a profile is authentic or not. By
publicizing more information about each user, other users should be better equipped to tell, for example, that someone is a bot if their bio claims they are U.S.-based but the account info displays an
overseas location.

Bier adds that X will begin testing the feature on X employee profiles next week, with plans to roll the update out to the public based on feedback the company receives.
As of now, it seems that users would be able to opt out of having this new information displayed to other users.
The decision to increase public-facing profile information comes after X
deleted 1.7 million bots that engaged in reply spam from the platform.
