As Pinterest attempts to solve its “AI Slop” problem, the company is attempting to boost
its in-app shopping presence ahead of the holiday season with new in-feed, AI-powered product recommendations.
In a blog post, Pinterest describes its “Boards made for you” feature
as “personalized boards curated using a combination of editorial expertise and AI-powered recommendations.”
The feature is designed to deliver shoppable content directly to users'
home feeds and inboxes. If a user is interested in clothing, for example, they might receive content including trending styles and weekly outfit inspiration, which will showcase items for
purchase.
Over the next few months, Pinterest users in the U.S. and Canada will begin to see their in-app boards change with the inclusion of new tabs focused on personalized, seamless
shopping.

These will include a “Make it yours” tab recommending products and content dedicated to fashion and home decor boards, as well as a “More ideas” tab, which
will provide recommended related Pins for all other board categories, such as beauty, recipes, and art.
Pinterest also writes that in the “All saves” tab, users can find all of the
previously saved Pins their updated boards are partly based on.
In addition, in the U.S. and Canada, Pinterest is currently experimenting with “Styled for you” AI-powered collages,
devised from fashion Pins that users have saved to their boards.
“Pinterest users can mix-and-match different fashion apparel and accessories” to create and shop outfits based on
their personal taste, the company says.
With the introduction of AI-powered boards and collages, Pinterest is attempting to get more out of saved Pins, expanding and evolving its
recommendations algorithm.
