A new report from market intelligence provider Similarweb shows Meta’s Threads app surpassing X in daily active mobile users, having further increased its user count in previous
months while X’s continues to decline.
According to Similarweb’s findings, Threads officially matched X
in mobile users in late September with around 130 million DAUs. Now, less than four months later, the data shows Threads with 141 million users on iOS and Android, which X’s numbers have dropped
to 125 million on mobile devices.
“Our machine learning algorithms are fed by millions of websites’ and
apps’ first-party analytics, both proprietary and sourced through partners,” Similarweb states in its report.
Following an unprecedented launch, drawing over 10 million sign-ups in the
app’s first seven hours, Meta’s X competitor app has continued to grow steadily as it develops its user and advertiser-facing features.

According to Similarweb’s data from this past July, Threads had about 115 million DAUs on mobile compared
to X’s 132 million. At the time, app analytics provider AppFigures released data showing Threads as the second-most downloaded app, behind only ChatGPT.
In addition, Meta’s numbers show that Threads reached over 400 million monthly active users as of August,
while X has claimed 600 million MAUs across mobile and web.
Threads’ growth can be linked to its
compatibility with Instagram user accounts and cross-platform promotions across Meta-owned apps, like Instagram and Facebook.
The social messaging platform has also integrated features
reminiscent of X and Twitter before it, such as interest-based communities, DMs, disappearing posts, conversation filters and chat-based games.
As X attempts to win back advertisers following Elon Musk’s 2022 takeover, Threads has focused on building
out its advertising capabilities, adding third-party
verification and introducing new ad
formats before the 2025 holiday boom.
