The first ChatGPT ads are beginning to serve up -- and marketers
are paying attention.
Ashley Fletcher, CMO at Adthena, wrote on LinkedIn that his team has identified its first set of
ads serving up on ChatGPT for signed-in desktop users in the U.S.
The Expedia sponsored ads, which served up in a set, focus on "Last minute weekend getaways," and
"Romantic trips for couples."
Fletcher wrote that "contrary to early predictions that ads would only appear after a back-and-forth dialogue, [but] these triggered immediately on the first

The user interface also features a prominent brand favicon and a "Sponsored" label, slightly different to OpenAI's original concepts.
Last week, Albertsons Companies, The Knot, Target,
William-Sonoma, and Kroger. said they would run ChatGPT ads.
The agency WPP Media reported that it would support tests with a range of industry verticals, including automotive, CPG,
entertainment, gaming, luxury, retail, technology, and travel. Brands participating in the pilot include Adobe, Audemars Piguet, Audible, Ford, Mazda, and Mrs. Myers, and many others.
Justin Wroe, Chief Commercial Officer at Omnicom Media Group, stated that these
ads are intended to introduce products and services to consumers "at a moment when engagement and relevance are inherently high" within the conversational interface.
