Meta's Chief Marketing Officer Alex Schultz will become the
tech giant’s first chief data officer, a position that will primarily focus on artificial intelligence (AI) analytics.
After overseeing Meta’s marketing and analytics efforts as a
company veteran, Schultz posted on LinkedIn about his new role as CDO, stating that moving forward, he will be “helping transform how Meta learns and makes decisions in the AI era.”
Schultz, who believes that traditional automated insight generation processes for consumers and businesses are “reaching their limits,” says that he will begin his new role by trying to
construct better data foundations across “AI-powered analytics, experimentation, research and decision-making.”
In addition to his previous role as CMO, the longtime Meta executive
has also overseen user research, competitive intelligence, and insight reporting to Meta’s board.

Schultz told Axios on Wednesday that
the “context layer” of Meta’s AI system -- how AI models are able to reason -- will be essential to the construction of the company’s future data analytics infrastructure.
“Building a ‘semantic’ layer across Meta's data warehouse that can help the company interpret its data across all products will be a top priority for the next six months,”
Schultz added.
Meta's Vice President of Consumer Marketing and Growth Denise Moreno has become the company's new CMO.
