Harris Poll: America's Worsening Financial Crisis

A survey released last week by Stagwell’s Harris Poll on behalf of the U.K. newspaper The Guardian found that over half of U.S. consumers said they were struggling to afford both gas (52%) and groceries (51%).

And a whopping 95% of Americans believe the U.S. is suffering from a so-called "affordability crisis," with half saying they are struggling to afford consumer debt such as student loans.

This crisis is hitting everyone, with half of all Democrats, Republicans and independents saying they are having trouble affording everyday necessities, the survey found.

Two-thirds -- including 49% of Republicans -- say they have little faith that the federal government will improve the cost-of-living crisis.

Fifty-seven percent  believe the economy is worsening -- an increase from the 46% who said the same in February, the last time Harris Poll and The Guardian did a similar survey.

As The Guardian noted in its writeup of the survey, Trump has denied that an affordability crisis exists.

Of course he has had more important things to deal with, like staging a UFC match at the White House (a little birthday present to himself) and digging into imagined voting fraud in Georgia during the 2020 presidential race. Oh, and bombing school kids in Iran.

If these poll numbers keep up, look for big changes in the upcoming midterm elections. At least if you believe, like many, that Americans vote with their wallets.
