Roblox Wants Us To Make Prompt-Generated Games

As part of an ongoing action plan to make it easier for anyone to create games within its vast ecosystem, Roblox has announced “Build,” a new tab in which creators can develop mobile-first games with the help of agentic tools.

Through Build, as well as the “Studio” tab, Roblox wants to offer creators the ability to “delegate the parts of development that don't require their full attention” when developing mobile gaming experiences, according to the company's announcement.

The process involves turning text prompts into games, similar to Meta's recent “Pocket” mobile app.

Based on a sentence --  i.e. “Let's make a thrilling racing game in fantastical cities” – Build is designed to “generate a starting point for the creator to iterate on, playtest, and share with friends or publish to Roblox,” the company explains.

From the artificial intelligence (AI)-generated product, creators are expected to use Roblox's Studio tab to further develop the game.

There are over 44 million games and experiences on Roblox, the majority of which can be played on mobile. The goal of introducing these agentic building tools to the mobile app is “to continue to accelerate creation across all experience levels.”

Build will begin testing on July 28 to users in New Zealand and will deploy to more creators across additional regions in the coming months.

Roblox also plans on releasing a scene-generation AI model designed to build editable and playable 3D scenes from single text prompts, as the company attempts to better embody its initial catchphrase: “You make the game.”
