Sony Pictures’ "Spider-Man: Brand New Day” had no
superhero fatigue in its second weekend -- posting $145 million domestically, according to Comscore, the third best domestic theatrical weekend ever.
The second frame of the new
“Spider-Man” movie was only topped by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015) at $149.2 million and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019) at $147.3 million.
“Brand
New Day” has now amassed $1.7 billion globally in its two-week period, according to Box Office Mojo. “The Odyssey,” which came in at $31.5 million in its fourth weekend, is now at
$1.1 billion in global box-office revenue.
Movie-theater chains have been buoyed by these movies as well as the success of “Toy Story 5,” “The Super Mario Galaxy
Movie,” “Minions & Monsters” and other films so far this year.

Season-to-date, movie box-office revenue (January 1-August 9) is up 19% versus a year ago $6.48 billion.
But it is down 12% over the same period in the pre-pandemic year 2019, when it totaled $7.38 billion.
So far this year, total movie studios' ad spend is down 14% to $437.5 million over the
same period a year ago, amassing 35.8 billion impressions from 127,672 airings, according to estimates from iSpot.tv.
A year ago, national TV ad spend was $509.0 million, with 45.7 billion
impressions coming from 189,977 airings.
