It was discovered that The Times is still mainly read offline online, with 91% choosing this option, while 27% read The Guardian offline only, and 35% read The Telegraph this way. On the other hand, The Telegraph and Guardian are read online only by 54% each, while 31% only read the Daily Mail online. The National Readership Survey undertook the research with the UK Online Measurement providers.

Social commerce and popular networks like Pinterest will another dimension to online shopping, triggering rapid growth in the UK sector. This prediction was made in the Economist Intelligence Unit's latest report, Retail 2022, which suggests that social media will play an integral role in warming physical retailers to the idea of a multi-channel strategy. According to internetretailing.net, the group believes at least a third of all UK retail sales will be conducted online by 2022, up from the 10% of present.

Summly is one of a number of startups disrupting the news industry that's keen for publishers to see it as a potential partner rather than a threat. "Publishers have been tremendously supportive, and we've already signed a deal with News Corporation," says founder Nick D'Aloisio. "These summaries have never existed before: it's a whole new medium of content to monetise for the publishers. We're taking stuff that exists, and finding a whole new entity to put it into."

Apple posted a notice on its website last week acknowledging a British court ruling that said Samsung had not copied Apple's iPad in designing its own tablets. But it went on to reference similar cases elsewhere that it won. The court told the company to replace the notice within 24 hours but the California-based company claims it will take 14 days to make the change. Sir Robin Jacob said: "I'm at a loss that a company such as Apple would do this. That is a plain breach of the order."

The international news channel has reached a new distribution agreement in Laos and launching its service on Laos Digital TV offer . The French version is now available 24/7 on channel 7 of the Laos Digital TV basic offer. The channel will also be accessible in hotels across Laos' capital city Vientiane, welcoming delegates of the Asia-Europe Meeting Summit (ASEM 9), which is being held November 5-6. France 24 is already available in French across Asia in New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Cambodia.

Telegraph Media Group has unveiled two new digital subscription packages for its international audience that will see it adopt a metering approach similar to the model currently used by the New York Times. International readers will get free access to The Telegraph's website up to a limit of 20 articles per month, after which they will be asked to choose between two subscription packages. The Telegraph web and mobile pack will offer unlimited access to the Telegraph's website and its mobile apps on Android and iPhone for GBP1.99 per month.
