The music tool, developed by Lurpak's social agency Outside Line, uses Last.fm's 'scrobbling' technology to give users music recommendations related to what they are cooking in the kitchen. The FoodBeats campaign is being promoted via Lurpak's Facebook and Twitter pages, its newsletter and via blogger outreach. Last.fm's music library is categorised using 'tags', where listeners can tag their music with a genre or mood.

The unit of Telefonica will introduce music service Sonora in Spain by the end of this month, followed by film service SundayTV in the fourth quarter. It plans to add those services in Portugal this year and expand to other European countries in 2013. Terra is in talks with music companies and film studios including Vivendi's Universal Music Group, News Corp.'s Fox, Walt Disney, and Time Warner's Warner Bros. to boost content offered through its services. It also seeks an Iberian head from such companies as Facebook, Google and Microsoft.

A YouGov survey finds that one in three owners of Internet-connected TVs primarily watches programmes through built-in services such as the iPlayer and film services such as LoveFilm and Netflix. For 18-24 year olds the figure rises to 41% but includes viewing on laptops rather than televisions. More than half (53%) of 18-24 year olds who own a smart TV have abandoned 'linear' TV altogether, as have 51% of smart TV owners with pre-school children. The marketing director of Orange France says that about 1,000 Free Mobile customers are returning to one of the three major operators -- Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom -- each week, disappointed with Free Mobile's service. SFR's CEO confirmed the trend. Free Mobile has yet to provide any information as to customer numbers. The operator's parent company, Iliad, is expected to unveil this data during its quarterly earnings summary planned for next month.

The UK digital video provider is betting that fans of international football, tennis and other games will watch with friends on the social network by launching more than 50 sports channels there. The London-based company's move to Facebook, where users can watch the sports channels without leaving the social networking site, follows distribution agreements to put its content on Google's YouTube site and LG's smart television sets. Perform's management believes the social network could become its largest source of traffic, thanks to the viral effect of Facebook's "open graph".

For the first six months, the operator will not charge people to use it to transfer money to any UK mobile phone number using text messaging. Available as an app for Android, Apple's iOS and BlackBerry, it can also be used for online shopping, tracking items purchased and making ATM cash withdrawals. After six months, it might charge 15 pence for each money transfer, although it is well aware that Barclays offers its Pingit service for free.
