Which is why the Financial Times has recently struck a deal with MapBox, a platform for creating custom maps. "As a global news organisation we have to be prepared for the eventuality of having an event happen pretty much anywhere in the world," Martin Stabe, head of interactive news at the Financial Times, told Journalism.co.uk.

Founder and editor Milo Yiannopolous told Press Gazette the site has secured financial backing from technology investment entrepreneurs Berlin 42. The Kernel was forced to shut in March after former editor Jason Hesse won a lawsuit against the title's parent company, Sentinel Media, which could not afford the GBP16,853 of unpaid wages it owed him.

Independent and Evening Standard content director Chris Blackhurst has claimed that "senior politicians" have urged newspaper editors to establish their own regulator outside of the auspices of a Royal Charter. Blackhurst told BBC Radio 4's The Media Show that politicians, whom he would not identify but described as "household names", had called him and other editors to "go alone". The calls came, according to Blackhurst, despite the three main Westminster political parties already having agreed a Royal Charter on press regulation due to be considered this autumn.

Individually, online reading time increased, Neil Thurman, the study's author and senior lecturer in electronic publishing at City University, told Journalism.co.uk, but not enough to offset decreases in print. The study, titled Newspaper Consumption in the Digital Age, looked at "time spent reading" data for the titles but did not include data from apps. There is a large disparity between the relative success of individual titles, however.

Specsavers, Vodafone, Laura Ashley and the charity Save the Children have all pulled ads from ask.fm. Hannah, 14, was found hanged on Friday after being bullied on the website.

The benefits i lists of being a brand ambassador include "invaluable" experience in papersmarketing and event management, and the opportunity to build contacts. The position also grants students "campus reporter" status, with the possibility of having work published in i newspaper, or on the Student section of the Independent website.
