Matt Smith's time as a Time Lord has come to an end, as it was announced that he was stepping down from the lead Doctor Who role he has held since 2010. Smith said it had been "an honour" to play the part. As expected, an army of devoted Doctor Who fans took to Twitter to thank him, which resulted in his name trending worldwide.

Internet-connected TV service YouView has been deployed by 400,000 UK homes since its launch eight months ago. The firm had distributed set top boxes to customers as part of broadband packages offered by BT and TalkTalk, partners in the BBC-sponsored joint venture together with ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Arqiva. YouView CEO Richard Halton said that YouView is now the fastest-growing TV service in the UK.

According to a recent investor presentation by Wall Street Journal publisher and Dow Jones CEO Lex Fenwick, the News Corp. entity is working on a new social network called WSJ Profile that would allow its readers to "participate in the sharing economy." Meanwhile, Bloomberg appears to be relaunching a social network originally developed by BusinessWeek and now called Current, with a view towards doing the same thing.

London technology magazine The Kernel is set to relaunch in August after managing to clear debts amounting to GBP24,000. The online mag, founded by former Telegraph tech writer Milo Yiannopoulos, was forced to close in March this year, just 16 months after its original launch, as employees and contributors complained of unpaid wages.
