• Tablets To Outpace PCs In 2015
    Researchers at Gartner have predicted that global tablet sales will overtake PC sales for the first time next year, reaching more than 320 million units compared to 316 million PC units. The prediction comes despite a "relative revival of the global PC market" in 2014, according to Ranjit Atwal, research director at Gartner.
  • Survey Finds Lots To Like In Community Journalism
    A new survey of hyperlocal online news sites reveals that many of them have been responsible for investigative and campaigning journalism. Of the 183 sites covered by the study, 42% said they had instigated their own campaigns over issues such as planning disputes, cuts to public services and local council accountability. Researchers regard that as "an impressive figure given the time and effort involved in starting, building, and sustaining a new campaign."

    The Scottish Crown office confirmed this afternoon that an indictment was served today on jailed former News of the World editor Andy Coulson. Coulson, who on Friday began an 18-month prison sentence for conspiracy to illegally intercept voicemails, has been charged in relation to testimony he gave at the trial of Scottish politician Tommy Sheridan.

    A total of 11 publishers and digital agencies shared the trophies across 18 categories at a spectacular ceremony at The RoundHouse in London. Immediate Media topped the list on the night, taking home three awards for Best Digital Marketing Campaign, Best 2014 Launch and Best use of Mobile. Carnyx Group, Dennis Publishing, Hearst Magazines UK, Global Radio and Vice Media all scooped two awards each with AOL, Digital Spy, IPC Media, Sigaria and Unruly Media also amongst the winners.

    Germany based start up Tutao has launched an end-to-end encryption based email service called Tutanota for free, after beta testing the service in the country. Using cryptography technology, the service encrypts all emails between Tutanota-users automatically. It can encrypt all data including subject, email content and all attachments automatically in the background without requiring any software installation for encryption.
