The company reported another $32m (GBP19m) in gross legal fees and costs related to the hacking scandal at its UK newspaper division. The bill for the solicitors and barristers who have been dealing with both criminal and civil cases in the Old Bailey and the high court over the last year brings now stands at $169m (GBP100m) for the last financial year.

Ashton Kutcher's viral content site, A+, which touts itself as "the fastest growing site in the history of the internet" has been accused of plagiarising articles from BuzzFeed and Huffington Post. In a similar style to the likes of BuzzFeed, A+'s content is predominantly listicles, videos and lifehacks.

Just a few month's ago, Google's antitrust headaches in Europe appeared to be winding down. Now, though, it appears that the company's troubles may be just beginning as EU authorities are set to ramp up investigations over whether it is abusing monopoly power. On Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported that EU regulators are about to grill Google over allegations that it is using its control over the Android operating system to favor its own apps, and to exclude competition.

Yahoo's vice president of mobile Alex Diaz has said that the company now develops its online platforms from a mobile-first solution, as it improves the quality of the user experience across all its platforms. Diaz discussed the company's growing mobile content strategy, having already seen the launch of apps for Yahoo News Digest in the UK as well as Yahoo Finance and Yahoo Sports this year.

Russia has granted Edward Snowden a 3-year residency permit, after his temporary asylum expired. That means the NSA leaker can stay in Russia, where he has been stranded since the U.S. cancelled his passport a year ago while he was in transit to Latin America. Activists across Europe have been pleading for their countries to let Snowden in to give testimony about mass surveillance in person, but not one government has agreed to do so, even those that have launched official inquiries over his revelations.

The online auction house has been voted the most popular online retailer, according to Ofcom's Communications Market report. The online marketplace beat others such as Argos, Tesco and John Lewis, with Ofcom finding that eBay had a mobile reach of 34%, Amazon followed with 28%. The report credited eBay's app for its escalating success.
