• UK Slips 3 Places in Press Freedom Index
    The UK has slipped three places in the global press freedom index to 33rd place because of the UK government's "harassment" of the Guardian newspaper over the Edward Snowden leaks. The list saw the UK drop as a result of the country "distinguishing itself by its harassment of the Guardian" following the NSA and GCHQ mass surveillance leaks from whistleblower Edward Snowden.

    TMG hosted an exclusive live stream of 20th Century Fox's The Monuments Men UK Premiere in London on Tuesday. Additionally, TMG have announced that they are now one of the official partners to this year's EE British Academy Film Awards, taking place on Sunday, providing some exclusive access to this year's event. TMG named Denise Parkinson as Entertainment Director Global and UK in January.

    The UK National Crime Agency has warned the users of casual sex apps, like Grindr and Tindr, to assure their partners are above the country's required age of consent. The latest warning comes after the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children experienced rise in complaints from teens reporting abuse on hook-up apps like Grindr. The application developers declare that app users have to authenticate they are over 17 years old.

  • Geeksphone To Sell Handset Online From 20 Feb.
    If you're jonesing for a phone that can run either Android or Firefox OS without voiding the guarantee, you don't have to wait much longer. The plucky Spanish manufacturer Geeksphone said on Tuesday that it will start selling its Intel Atom-based Revolution handset through its online store from 20 February at a cost of EUR239 ($326) excluding tax, though it's offering the device at a slightly discounted EUR222 for a limited period of time.

    Johnston Press employees in Ireland have received notices informing them that the terms of their employment contracts will be switched to a new company, Formpress Publishing Ltd, later this week. They believe it to be a precursor to the publisher's newspapers being sold to the company, which was incorporated in Dublin on 31 January. Its directors are listed as Marian Hayes and Kieron Patrick Hayes.

NRS, which conducts face-to-face surveys of 36,000 people per year, now includes questions about whether consumers have accessed publisher brands across a wide range of digital platforms.

    According to the report, the Pay TV services would continue to serve as the primary video entertainment system for many consumers and the overall time spent watching online video is expected to increase over 21 hours per month by 2019 from 12.7 hours in 2013. The report revealed that mobile online viewing has increased over all other categories despite continued growth of online video viewing on connected consumer electronics.
