AKQA Opens Its First Latin America Office

Just in time for the World Cup, WPP digital shop AKQA has expanded to Brazil with the opening of its new Sao Paulo office. The creative team of Hugo Veiga and Diego Machado will lead the agency in Brazil, reporting to AKQA’s CEO Ajaz Ahmed.

Veiga and Machado, who collected nearly two dozen 2013 Cannes Lions -- their work for Dove Real Beauty Sketches earned Latin America’s first Titanium Grand Prix -- are jumping from sister agency Ogilvy & Mather, where they were also based in Sao Paulo.

AKQA Sao Paulo is being housed in a newly renovated workspace called Casa AKQA that will initially employ around 60 people. It’s the agency’s 13th office and the first in Latin America. Globally, the shop employs around 1,600 staffers.

“Hugo and Diego have a brilliant body of work that is admired and respected worldwide,” said CEO Ahmed. “AKQA Sao Paulo now provides the canvas to take their vision for the work they want to create to the next level."

“We’re excited to add a Latin flavor to AKQA’s network of ideas and innovation where entrepreneurialism and creativity have successfully created game-changing impact for clients and life-changing ideas for people," said Machado.

Veiga added that the Sao Paulo office hopes to draw a diverse array of Adland’s brightest. “We want to attract the best talent from all over the world to join us in Sao Paulo,” he said.
