Amazon Fire TV today added HBO Go to its list of content providers that the service offers. To receive HBO Go, users first have to subscribe to HBO through their cable or satellite
provider, and that's the same way it works for smartphones.
But if you subscribe to Comcast cable, don’t waste your time. The nation’s largest cable provider is missing
from the list, although it appears that is just a technical or contractual snag that will be cleared up quickly. Charter Communications is not on the list of cable and satellite providers allowing its
subscribers to get HBO Go via Amazon Fire.
Earlier, Amazon released a brief statement about Comcast's absence.
“Comcast is not currently supporting HBO Go on Amazon
Fire TV,” a prepared statement from Amazon says. “We’d love to provide HBO Go for Comcast customers on Fire TV and encourage those customers to reach out to Comcast for further
information on availability.”
Time Warner Cable, Cox, Wow, DirecTV, Dish, Mediacom, Bright House, Verizon FiOS, and AT&T U-Verse all allowed their customers to access HBO
Go through Amazon Fire.
To get HBO Go, a user must be an HBO subscriber on a cable or satellite system. Comcast and other cable subscribers already can get HBO Go on smartphones and other types
of computers.
HBO recently announced it was planning a stand-alone OTT channel next year that online users can subscribe to without first having a cable subscription -- just the kind of service
that would be perfect for Amazon Fire and some believe could induce cable disconnects.
