Good God! Hasn't the ad world -- and the rest of the world as well -- seen enough of Donny Deutsch? We've been subjected to his brash, in-your-face pompous ridiculousness since he showed up
on
The Apprentice. Or maybe it was that photo of him in a Speedo from years back. Alas, it seems, there are some who think the world wants more Donny Deutsch.
USA Network has
signed a deal with the former CNBC Big Idea host for a "soft-scripted" (that's a new one) comedy entitled "Donny!" Which, when you think about it, is a genre that's perfect for the man.
The network has ordered six episodes of the half-hour show which will premiere later this year. Deutsch will play a fictionalized version of himself as a daytime talk show host, and separately,
offer a look into his personal life being a single dad and tackling the dating world. Oy!
Of the series, USA Network President Chris McCumber said, “’Donny!’ is a
‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’-style series, centered on the hyper-imagined real-life of Donny Deutsch. The juxtaposition of how Donny portrays his public and personal life in this series is
hilarious, and the story lines are a real wink for the viewers, showing that despite anyone’s profile or success, we all deal with the same issues.”
