Facebook is adding the capability for augmented reality ads in the News Feed.
Calls-to-action can be included within the camera experience, so consumers can use AR to experience a product and then purchase it. The first brand to test AR ads in News Feed was Michael Kors, which enabled people to try on a pair of sunglasses and then purchase them.
Other examples of using AR in ads in the news feed are trying on a lipstick shade or exploring a new game, after which the lipstick can be bought or an app installed.
“Later this summer, we will begin testing AR ads with some additional advertisers such as Sephora and others in fashion accessories, cosmetics, furniture, gaming and entertainment, and we plan to roll out AR ads more broadly to other industries over the course of the year,” stated the Facebook announcement.
