IAB Releases Newfronts Schedule, Adds Vudu

For the second consecutive year, the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s Digital Content Newfronts will take place over one week in late April and early May.

The preliminary schedule, released Thursday, includes 15 presentations scheduled between Monday, April 29 and Thursday, May 2.

On Friday, May 3, the IAB will host the NewFronts Insights Symposium. It will feature “discussion, thought leadership, and new research on the video marketplace.”

Two years ago, the Newfronts counted 35 presentations across two weeks. Last year, the number of presentations was effectively halved. This year’s presentations total 15, although the presenters are subject to changes or additions.

Among the returning presenters are YouTube, Hulu, Twitter, The New York Times, Meredith, BBC News, Verizon Media Group (formerly Oath), Viacom, and Disney.

Vice will also be returning, after being a last-minute addition in 2018. Group Nine Media, Refinery29, and ESPN are not on the 2019 preliminary schedule, despite having presented last year.

One surprising new entrant is Vudu, the Walmart-owned streaming video company. Vudu has been ramping up its content offerings in a bid to more directly take on Amazon Prime Video and other streaming offerings.

In late 2018, the IAB also held a second Newfronts event in Los Angeles. It is not clear whether it will do so this year.
