Amazon Enlists Robert Downey Jr. For Philanthropic Effort

Amazon is celebrating Giving Tuesday by once again offering customers an easy way to donate to Toys for Tots.

Starting today through Dec. 31, customers can start the process by saying, “Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots," and Amazon will ship the toys selected directly to the charity. Amazon will double customer contributions.

In 2018, Amazon customers donated thousands of toys to children in need via Alexa, according to the company.

To support this year’s initiative, the online retailer is launching a TV spot featuring Robert Downey Jr., star of "Doolittle" “(in theaters Jan. 17). Amazon also created a microsite for the effort.

Customers donating with Alexa will receive a thank-you message from Downey Jr’s. “Dolittle” co-star Craig Robinson.

This season, Toys for Tots curated a Charity List featuring items such as My First Mind Blowing Science Kit, 5 Second Rule Junior and Spot It!

Customers who wish to make a monetary donation to the charity of their choice outside of Toys for Tots are still able to do so by saying, “Alexa, I want to make a donation” to get started.

Amazon’s Charity Lists also give charitable organizations an easy way to create wish lists of products needed, while allowing customers to donate these essential items directly via smile.amazon.com/charitylists.

Customers also can donate a percentage of their purchases throughout the year to charity via the Amazon Smile program by starting their shopping trips at smile.amazon.com.
