34% Of Global Households Owned Smart TVs At End Of 2020

More than 665 million homes — or 34% of
households worldwide — around the world owned at least one smart TV as of the end of 2020, according to Strategy Analytics.
The research firm projects that the number of smart TV homes will hit 1.1 billion, or 51% of global households, by 2026.
Smart TV sales increased 7.4% last year, to total 186 million units and account for 79% of all flat-panel TVs sold.
Growth was strongest in North America, in part due to government COVID relief/stimulus checks.
Samsung led in unit sales for the ninth consecutive year. Chinese manufacturer TCL bumped LG from second place for the first time.
Four smart-TV operating systems accounted for more than 50% of total global sales last year — up from 33% in 2019.
Samsung’s Tizen remains the leading operating system, but third-party software platforms including Android TV and Roku TV OS continue to make significant share gains.
