YouTube To Introduce Gen AI-Based Dream Screen Next Year

YouTube will move further into generative artificial intelligence (GAI), providing a variety of tools for creators, agencies, and brands.

The tools range from GAI-generated backgrounds for Shorts to finding the perfect music for the right price to run with a video.

YouTube is also in the process of creating a new app that will provide a variety of free editing tools.

Neil Mohan, YouTube CEO, introduced Dream Screen to attendees at Made On YouTube attendees on Thursday, saying that “generative AI will push the boundaries of creative expression by making difficult things simple, and impossible dreams possible.”

Dream Screen is a GAI-image generator for background. When a creator thinks of an idea and types it into the topics bar, the video image then appears on the screen.

Shorts averages more than 70 billion daily views -- up from 50 billion in January 2023.

Backgrounds for videos are only one consideration in bringing GAI into YouTube to simplify every stage of the creative process.

YouTube has been testing a new GAI tool for Shorts that suggests topics through data insights about what audiences already watch on YouTube. It will launch in Studio next year.

The tool in YouTube Studio will tap GAI to spark video ideas and draft outlines to help creators brainstorm. These insights are personalized for each channel and based on what audiences are already watching and interested in.

The tool was described in a way that is similar to the software publishers created years ago, which used searches to identify the most-read topics on their media sites, and then used that data to create news and human-interest stories that would attract readers.

Shorts averages more than 70 billion daily views -- up from 50 billion in January 2023.

Finding songs will also become easier, based on AI Music Principles that are set on collaborating with partners responsibly.

YouTube launched Creative Music last year, but GAI-assisted search will act like a music concierge when the creator describes the video, the length and the type of song. The technology will provide information on tracks and prices.

To reach new audiences, YouTube will debut an AI-powered dubbing tool called Aloud, so creators easily reach audiences well beyond their primary language. It takes one click to use. Available to select creators, the feature is currently being tested in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

YouTube also is building a new app with a suite of easy-to-use tool to make longer videos easier to create that will be free to use. YouTube Create will let people edit videos.
