Progressive Adds To 'Backup' Plan


Progressive's "Backup" campaign continues with new ads featuring back-up NFL quarterbacks.

The spots posit the idea that, like on the gridiron, it would be helpful for ordinary people to have backups for tricky moments at home.

The three new ads, by Arnold Worldwide, include “Frame” (Josh Dobbs), “Nest” (Colt McCoy) and “Taxes” (Jacoby Brissett).

The campaign runs on national broadcast, OLV/YouTube and social/digital. The social/digital aspects of the campaign are running on Instagram and TikTok.

“Most football fans have an irrational love for their team’s back-up quarterback,” said Sean McBride, Chief Creative Officer of Arnold. “And something like 65 different quarterbacks started games in the NFL last year, so back-ups have never been more relevant or important. Since they’re getting their chance to shine on the field, we figured it was high-time back-up QBs got their chance to shine as celebrity spokespeople, too.”

Arnold Worldwide's roster work includes PNC Bank, ADP and Sam's Club.
