Streaming radio service TuneIn has raised $16m (GBP10.2m) in its latest round of funding, while announcing that it now has more than 40m monthly active listeners. The service, which is available as a website, mobile apps and through connected hi-fis and TVs, helps people stream more than 70,000 radio stations, while also providing on-demand shows and podcasts. TuneIn's audience is global: the company says it has listeners in 230 countries and territories, and stations from 206.

The London 2012 Olympic Games is proving an online smash hit for host broadcaster the BBC, but it is also scoring highly for pay-TV partner Eurosport. On Aug. 3, Eurosport.com achieved its best ever digital performance, as 6.5 million users accessed the latest news, blogs and expert analysis around the Games. This beat Eurosport's previous online record of 6.1 million browsers on October 23, 2011, for the Rugby World Cup final and the sad death of MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli.

The claim comes from technology researcher Gartner, that suggests the way social media is used will change as both consumers and businesses become more familiar with it. As this happens, more consumers will take to social platforms for complaints, queries and general customer service interactions.

With a stronger focus on social media the website also features more content, photos and picture galleries, live blogs, and topic pages which group stories on people, places and events. The website also features a series of technical improvements, including the implementation of the Escenic web content management system.

Amazon, which owns the Kindle, a popular e-reader, has revealed that in the UK it is selling 114 e-books to every 100 printed hardbacks and paperbacks. The trend for digital books outselling printed books on the popular e-reading platform has been the case for the last few years in the US,but had yet to happen in the UK. The store's most popular author this year is Fifty Shades of Grey writer EL James, whose surprise bestseller has enjoyed a major success as an e-book. It has sold more than two million copies in just four months.

Digital album sales in the UK have hit the 100-million milestone as consumer spending continues to shift away from physical CDs to online downloads. According to new data released by the Official Charts Company and the BPI, digital albums now account for 34% of overall album sales, with demand for chart-topping artists Adele and Ed Sheeran driving this increase. This is a stark contrast to 2006, when records of digital sales began and album downloads made up just 1.8% of overall sales.

According to data from research firm comScore, the tabloid Daily Mail's Mail Online overtook The New York Times last year as the world's biggest newspaper website and held the top spot in June with 44.7 million visitors. Separate data from Web analytics site Alexa.com showed that The Guardian and BBC websites among the top 15 news sites, holding their own among CNN, Yahoo! News and others.

Maplin, a specialist retailer of consumer electronics with network of 200 stores in the UK and Ireland, is set to start offering free Wi-Fi access. The company, which has signed a deal with Wi-Fi provider The Cloud for this initiative, expects to activate the same by the end of this month. Referring to a research from On Device Research, released in February this year, Maplin highlighted that 60% of shoppers have used the mobile Internet while in stores. Also, 78% would use free Wi-Fi in stores if it was offered.

A new study, shown exclusively to The Sunday Telegraph, has found that investment in social media marketing by financial services companies has declined sharply since the end of 2011. In the fourth quarter of 2011, 22% of businesses polled in the sector were investing in social media marketing. This figure fell to 8.5% in the first quarter of 2012 and to 6% by the second quarter. Pearlfinders, a major business research company, spoke to more than 5,000 marketeers around the world about their budgets.
