A Cambridge University study claims Facebook 'likes' may be revealing more about users than they know including sexual orientation, drug use and political beliefs. According to researchers, algorithms proved 88% true for determining male sexuality, 95% precise in distinguishing African-American from Caucasian-American and 85% for differentiating Republican from Democrat.

A period of tortuous negotiation is to conclude over the next 24 hours with all three party leaders striving to attain common ground, principally the idea of using a Royal Charter to set up the new body. Big differences of opinion remain however, notably Labour's call for the Royal Charter to be underpinned by law to prevent future political meddling, a wish which has prompted their threat to support a series of amendments to unrelated government bills.

FT headlines will be displayed on screens across the city with the content tailored to specific audiences depending on the companies based in the area. For instance, display screens near the Google offices will receive updates on the technology and media sectors, whereas buildings with companies from other sectors, such as finance, will see a different blend of content.

Controversy has erupted over Tuesday's European Parliament resolution "on eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU", meant to mark international women's day, after libertarian Swedish MEPs from the Pirate Party spotted the call for a ban in the small print. While not legally binding, the vote could be the first step towards European legislation as the EU's assembly increasingly flexes its political muscle within Europe's institutions.

The Press Awards judges said the Times was chosen as newspaper of the year for its "superb scoops", coverage of the jubilee and the Olympics and its "innovative digital offering". It was "the best of the best in 2012", they said. Mail Online won the digital award for the second year running, one of four wins for the Daily Mail, including sports photographer of the year for Andy Hooper and Andrew Malone, named feature writer of the year (popular papers).

The European Court of Justice has ruled that TVCatchup is breaching copyright by live-streaming TV programmes without obtaining rights clearance from broadcasters. Europe's highest court made the pronouncement which affects dozens of websites showing live TV in the UK and is likely to spark a renewed clampdown by rights holders such as ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 against similar sites.

Boots UK has announced a new on-air and online programme, The Boots Feel Good Forum, which aims to get its audience feeling good about their health and beauty. The collaboration between Boots UK and OMD Drum, national broadcast stations Real Radio and Smooth Radio, production company Somethin' Else and in partnership with Mumsnet, will be hosted by broadcaster and journalist Kate Thornton offering health and beauty advice in a consumer lifestyle programme format.

Press+, which helps digital publishers to implement subscription models, has announced that subscription costs are rising and 'meters' - the number of articles accessible for free - are falling. From January 2012 to January 2013 the average price of a monthly digital subscription increased by nearly 40% while the average meter setting dropped by 10% a move to prices that the company says "reflect the true value of their content".

Euronews is to become the first major news channel to utilise Vine, Twitter's controversial new iPhone application for sharing short, six-second videos. Anyone who follows the @euronews Twitter feed will now receive #EuronewsVineOfTheDay, offering a video clip representing the day's major headline. Euronews said that the videos are intended to "grab viewers' attention", and Twitter will no doubt be pleased that Vine is being used by such an established broadcaster.
