Over the past year, England's almost century-old media powerhouse the BBC has been searching for the most innovative digital media startups based in London through its year-old accelerator program BBC Labs. And on Monday night, at an event in the offices of Wayra, BBC Labs announced its second class of six London-based digital media startups that will enter into the accelerator program. The companies range from a startup making a branded captcha, to a new freelancer portfolio site, to video image recognition software.

Vice magazine has taken down a controversial feature which showed models reenacting the suicides of several famous female authors. The fashion section piece by Annabel Mehran had models reenacting the deaths of Virginia Woolf, Iris Chang, Charlotte Perkins, Sylvia Plath, Sanmao and Elise Cowen, as well as Dorothy Parker slitting her wrists, captioned by what the models wore and details of the women's deaths.

Toxic magazine, a three-weekly publication for teenage boys, has launched its first two apps games on iPad and iPhone in a bid to reward readers and raise the brand's exposure. As part of a campaign to establish a presence on multiple platforms, especially with the release of the first interactive issue of the magazine earlier this year, the Toxic brand is to be extended into entertainment and apps.

Respected Guardian blogger Roy Greenslade has released an apology following a blog post on the incident between Charles Saatchi and Nigella Lawson, saying he is "mortified" that his blog could have been considered a defence of domestic violence. Professor Greenslade published a blog on Monday criticising the tabloid media reaction to the pictures and said there had been a rush to judgement that the incident was related to domestic abuse.

For more than a century, bad news always came by telegram. A slip of pastel paper through the door would confirm our worst fears, from the death of a relative to the loss of a battle far from home. Yet the telegram service was not able to break the news of its own demise on Thursday. Instead, the announcement that India would abandon the service next month appeared on the internet, the telegram's nemesis.

When it comes to online publishing, The Irish Times was keen to "do unconventional things that force the industry as a whole to move forward", chief innovation officer Johnny Ryan told Journalism.co.uk. With this mission in mind, The Irish Times held the second installation of its start-up incubator project with the plan to "find start-ups who have created compelling experiences for the user", but, vitally, had "no reference or interest in advertising".

Telegraph Media Group has partnered with Waitrose to launch a 'media first' campaign to promote the launch of a new gardening website from Waitrose. Having launched yesterday, the partnership sees Waitrose sponsor the The Daily Telegraph's Saturday Gardening section, including a front page logo and call to action, as well as a bespoke online waitrosegarden.com hub.

Independent owner Evgeny Lebedev took to Twitter on Monday morning to announce the surprise appointments of Amol Rajan as editor of the Independent and Oly Duff as editor of sister title i. Rajan will take over the editorial role from Chris Blackhurst, who will continue as group content director across Lebedev's titles after less than two years in the role.

It has been part of online life since 2007, and has gradually evolved into the mainstream via celebrities and latterly as legal, governmental and public institutions joined the ranks, but now tweeting has officially been recognised as a linguistic reality with its inclusion in the venerable Oxford English Dictionary.

A new Welsh language service, PoblCaerdydd, is being launched today in Cardiff to serve the city's estimated 36,000 Welsh speakers. The digital news and networking service will be introduced at the annual Tafwyl festival. It has been developed by and for the community with support from Cardiff university's school of journalism.
