SodaStream Taking Out Full-Pager On Thursday

  • June 12, 2013

SodaStream, which makes home carbonation machines, is planning to run a print ad – full page, full color – in USA Today, New York Times, Chicago Tribune and San Francisco Chronicle. The ad shows the evolution of the modern soda drinker.

Currently the company has three TV spots in rotation on cable and regional: Game Changer (:30), SodaStream Effect (:30)  and SodaStream Effect (:15).

There's a David and Goliath -- or maybe bee in the bonnet -- thing going on between the company and Big Soda. Evidently CBS refused to permit “Game Changer” for the Super Bowl, because it overtly teased Coke and Pepsi, so SodaStream ran “The SodaStream Effect” instead (both ads were by Alex Bogusky). After the Super Bowl, ABC, CBS, NBC, ION and HLN have all declined to run “Game Changer,” so SodaStream is running “The SodaStream Effect” instead. That's the official word, anyway.
